FAQs

Our FAQs (or Frequently Asked Questions) for family surname shields, coats of arms and crest images. If there are any other questions you may have, please contact us for a prompt reply.

Question: I placed an order but didn’t see or get a download link by email.

Answer: If you paid by credit/debit card or PayPal for an instant download, you should be redirected to an order confirmation page on this website after payment and this will show your order details with the download link(s). The same details are also immediately sent to the email address you provided with your order.

If for any reason you didn’t see a confirmation web page, please check your email. Although the email from our system is sent immediately your instant payment has been accepted, the email may not arrive instantly due to normal email delays. Also, please check your email’s spam or junk folders as many email providers will filter emails it thinks might be spam into one of these folders.

If you still don’t see your order details, it could be that you entered your email address incorrectly on the order form. Please contact us with your order details, and if possible provide a secondary email address in case of problems. If you are based in the United Kingdom you can also provide a UK mobile phone number and we can send your download link as a text message.

If you created an account on our website (My Account) you can login to see your order details and download link(s) there.

Please note that we respect your privacy and no email addresses, mobile numbers or anything else will be shared with anyone else as shown in our privacy policy. Your contact details will only be used to contact you with your download link(s) and order details.

Question: Are the shield images on this website as seen or an actual coat of arms image?

Answer: The shield images are supplied exactly as seen in each of the shield product pages. Although shields are the main part of a coat of arms (sometimes called a ‘family crest’) they are supplied here as just the shield with the surname on a curved banner underneath and the associated motto on another banner above the shield.

If no motto exists for the surname we will normally use the name of the country of origin instead, or if the surname has a Scottish or Irish Gaelic spelling we will use that instead. If you would rather have the country of origin or a Gaelic spelling of the name (if one exists), please order from our other order page for your choice of surname and mention this in the order notes area.

If you would rather order a coat of arms image, you can do so from our other website at SurnameCoatsofArms.uk.

Question: Can I order images from this website (i.e. a shield) and another (clan crest) image from your other website and make just one single payment?

Answer: Yes. To do this simply place your order from each website and choose the bank transfer payment option on each site. Also mention in the order notes area that you are also ordering from our other sites for one single payment. Once you have placed orders from each website we will email you a web link for a single combined amount. You can then pay by credit/debit card or PayPal, or pay by bank transfer (currently UK banks only).

Question: Can I order an image in a format other than a .PNG?

Answer: We don’t normally provide the images in other formats because a PNG image is transparent, so it will allow your own background colours or designs to show through when placed or printed. The PNG images from us can easily be viewed and then saved into another format (JPG, JPEG, PDF, GIF, etc.) if required. This can normally be done using the image viewer on your device or popular software such as Preview on an Apple Mac, the Files app on iPads (save as a PDF), Apple Pages, Microsoft Office, the free and open source LibreOffice and GIMP graphics software (both for Windows, Macs and Linux), Abobe Photoshop (& Elements), Affinity Photo / Designer / Publisher, etc.

If you are unable to save your PNG image as another file type, please contact us.
